Dough
- ¾ cup warm whole milk 110°F / 43°C
- 1 .25 ounce bundle active dry yeast
- 1 large egg room temperature
- 1 large egg yolk room temperature
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 ½ teaspoons freshly grated orange zest
- ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour partitioned, or more as needed
- 1 ½ teaspoons legitimate salt
- Cooking spray
Filling
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 ½ teaspoons freshly grated orange zest
Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
Prepare the Dough
In a huge bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it gets to be frothy.
Add the egg, egg yolk, mollified butter, honey, orange zest, and orange juice to the yeast mixture. Blend until well combined.
Gradually mix 3 cups of flour and salt until the dough collides. Knead for 5-7 minutes, adding more flour, if necessary, until the dough is soft and slightly sticky.
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Assemble the Rolls
Roll the dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
Evenly spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on one of the long edges.
Roll the dough tightly, starting from the opposite long edge, and seal the seam by pinching it closed.
Cut the log into 12 even slices and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Make the Frosting
While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange zest, orange juice, and salt until smooth and creamy.
